Angel Mounds State Historic Site
Angel Mounds State Historic Site is nationally recognized as one of the best-preserved prehistoric Native American sites in the United States. Angel Mounds features a newly designed model museum that tell the story of the people of the Middle Mississippian culture who inhabited this area from 1000 to 1450 A.D. and the archeological remains of mounds they inhabited. Trails lead through the village for biking and hiking. Amazing new find that unearths more of the mysteries of our earliest settlers.
Burdette Park, Aquatic Center and BMX track
Burdette Park has family fun year-round.The park is open 7AM-midnight, 365 days a year. The Park Office is open from 8AM-4:30PM Memorial Day through Labor Day. All activities in the park are subject to operational hours, rental restrictions and weather conditions.
Garden of the Gods
Located in the Shawnee National Forest in Southeastern Illinois, Garden of the Gods is famous for its unique rock formations and spectacular views, including Camel Rock and Anvil Rock. Garden of the Gods features hiking, camping and picnicking. A short looped trail from the main parking lot, which can be hiked in about 45 minutes, passes along most of the main rock formations.
John James Audubon State Park & Museum
Located south of the Gold Star twin bridges that connect Indiana to Kentucky, Audubon Museum and State Park preserves the work and spirit of this internationally recognized expert of ornithology. Audubon walked the forest now named after him when he resided in Kentucky in his early years. Life-size folios are on exhibit as are details of the accomplished study done by Audubon throughout his life. The surrounding woods offer trails for hiking, a lake for boating or fishing, and a beautiful 9-hole golf course.
Lincoln State Park
This scenic 1,747-acre park was established in 1932 as a memorial to Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Recreational facilities include Lake Lincoln, lakeside shelter house, boat rental, nature center, cabins, picnic areas, shelters and trails. Lincoln State Park is home to the Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum.
Marengo Cave
Marengo Cave is one of the most beautiful show caves in the Eastern United States and has long been considered one of the Midwest's finest natural wonders. It is designated a U.S. National Landmark based on its great beauty and extremely large classic trunk passage.
Master Gardeners Display Gardens
Year round beauty abounds in this oasis of plants, shrubs and flowers conveniently located off of the Lloyd Expressway on Evansville's eastside. Site of community vegetable garden. Visitors welcome during daylight hours anytime. For guided tours, see information on the website listed.
