Evansville Collects: Contemporary American Still Life
Evansville Collects Contemporary American Still Life celebrates a most happy consequence of the museum’s focus on the still life genre. Beginning with the 1988 exhibition The Eye and the Heart – Watercolors of John Stuart Ingle, members of our community have become aware of dozens of contemporary realist artists from across the country; have gained a better appreciation of the substance and scope of the work by these artists; and have thoughtfully built their own collections using the museum as a resource.
Skulls and Bones
Through a variety of hands-on displays, visitors can learn about the complex structure of bones, find out how to identify a variety of animal skulls, and get tips on the importance of diet and exercise in order to maintain bone health. They can look through a microscope that magnifies the amazing structure of bones, learn to identify the different internal parts of bones, find out how bones are actually living, growing tissue, and see the bones of an ice age mastodon from the Museum’s collection.
